Abstract Flower Motif No. 5

Materials
3 colors of worsted weight cotton yarn (I used Lily Sugar'n Cream in White, Yellow, Hot Green, and Mod Blue in various combinations for all the motifs.)
Size H (5mm) hook
(Of course you could try any other weight yarn and an appropriate hook!)

6 inch diameter

Special Stitches
2 Double Crochet Cluster (2dc cluster): *yarn over, insert hook in space, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

3 Double Crochet Cluster (3dc cluster): *yarn over, insert hook in space, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat from * twice, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in previous sc. (Insert hook into front loop of sc and left most vertical bar under front loop of same single crochet, yarn over, and pull through vertical bar, front loop, and loop on hook.)

Directions (Written in US Crochet Terms)
With Color A
Rnd 1- In magic circle, ch 3, dc, ch 2, (2dc cluster, ch 2) 7 times, sl st to top 
       of first dc, fasten off.
Rnd 2- Join Color B in any ch 2 space, (ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc cluster, ch 1) in 
       same space, (2dc cluster, ch 1, 2dc cluster, ch 1) in next ch 2 space and 
       in each ch 2 space around, sl st to top of first dc, fasten off.
Rnd 3- Join Color C in first ch 1 space after the sl st join of last round, ch 3, 
       2dc cluster in same space, ch 4, sl st in next ch 1 space, ch 4, 
       *3dc cluster in next ch 1 space, ch 4, sl st in next ch 1 space, ch 4, 
       repeat from * around, sl st to first 3dc cluster, fasten off.
Rnd 4- Join Color A with a sc in any 3dc cluster, ch 3, 3dc cluster around the 
       next sl st from Rnd 4 (and ch 1 space of Rnd 2), ch 3, *sc in next 
       3dc cluster, ch 3, 3dc cluster around the next sl st from Rnd 4, ch 3, 
       repeat from * around, sl st to first sc, DON'T fasten off.
Rnd 5- Ch 1, sc in same st, picot, 3 sc in next ch 3 space, sc in next 3dc 
       cluster, picot, 3 sc in next ch 3 space, *sc in next sc, picot, 3 sc in next 
       ch 3 space, sc in next 3dc cluster, picot, 3 sc in next ch 3 space, repeat 
       from around, sl st to first sc, fasten off, sew in ends.

Block if desired. (I lightly pinned out my motifs, sprayed them with water and let them dry over night.)

  1. Kate, this is such a very pretty motif. I think it would make a beautiful throw but the edging is quite delicate. Do you think it would be possible to join them maybe in the blue yarn? I wouldn't contemplate changing the colors. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Get out of my head! :} I have been experimenting with this motif for that purpose by joining them at 3 picots on each side, and have made a little joining motif in the middle... I've been using scrap acrylic yarn, and was going to take a picture and post it to see if people think it could work as a blanket... I'll try to do that soon! As for joining with blue yarn I think that would be lovely! With the cotton yarn that I had used, it might even make a good table runner!

      Let me know if you experiment, and I'll get at posting the photo of my experiment maybe this afternoon!
